Science-backed ways to support immunity
Our immune systems are wonderful, complex and beautiful things. When they are functioning at their best, they can overpower and destroy foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses, often without us even being aware.
So how do we thank our lovely and amazing immune system for all of the work it does on our behalf?
We do everything we can to support it.
We prepare for a fight before we know it’s coming.
When people talk about “boosting your immune system” what they really mean is living a healthy lifestyle that won’t compromise your immunity in any way. Keeping your immune system strong and ready to defend means that you:
- Try not to engage in certain lifestyle or behavior choices that are known to compromise your immune response, like smoking or not sleeping enough.
- Make healthy lifestyle choices. And utilize the power of proven, immune-supporting vitamins and minerals, through diet and supplementation to give your immune system the ammunition it needs to kill off bad guys that try to make you sick.
You see, a good portion of your immune system lives in your gut. There are trillions of species of bacteria, viruses, and fungi that live in a symbiotic colony in your large intestine. This “gut microbiome,” when tended to and supported, can help overcome any pathogenic bacteria and viruses that enter your body. (1)
One of the ways we support the gut microbiome is to feed it what it needs to thrive — a healthy diet full of vegetables and fruit and all of the essential vitamins and fiber that it likes to feed on.
You’re probably wondering why the sudden interest in Immune support Isa?
Well, there’s a story here.
I live in NYC, and two weeks ago, I became ill.
Instead of getting freaked out and getting scared, I went into immediate action to care for myself.
I was able to support my immune response to completely kick it in a week.
In this article, I’m going to share with you my immune boosting secrets and the steps I took to get better quickly.
Collagen
Collagen is a superfood for your gut.
Since the villi that make up your intestinal tract are made of collagen, it’s important to get enough of it in your diet to optimize gut health.
Some studies even suggest that those with intestinal bowel disease (IBD) have lower levels of collagen in their blood. (2) And researchers have also found a connection between stomach cancer and collagen metabolism. (3)
Not only can collagen help your immune system by supporting gut strength, but it’s also great for your skin including the skin of your vulva. (4) It’s an amazing way to support immunity, and look good while you’re doing it, too!
The thing about collagen is it’s kind of tricky to get enough through diet alone. You have to eat ample amounts of vitamin C, zinc, copper, and protein for your body to combine those ingredients and make collagen. Or you have to make bone broth, which is a lengthy process. I did drink a lot of bone broth when I was ill so I definitely recommend you make some and freeze it.
I also opted for the easier route when my chicken broth ran out. I’m totally in love with — Organixx Clean Sourced Collagens.
This powder is full of the immune-boosting power of collagen AND it’s combined with extracts from camu-camu berry, the world’s most potent source of vitamin C. It’s simply a no-brainer when it comes to immune support.
Mushrooms
Mushrooms are one of the most powerful allies we have when it comes to immune strength.
Mushrooms have been prized for centuries all over the world for their ability to help fight off pathogens.
And research supports the above.
Some scientists think mushrooms will be able to help fight cancer. (5)
And in one study, researchers found better-functioning gamma delta T-cells and lowered markers of inflammation in study participants that ate just one shitake mushroom every day for four weeks. (6)
Can you imagine how powerful the effect would be on your immune system if you ate the equivalent of hundreds of the most potent immune-boosting mushrooms on the planet every day?
Well, that’s exactly what I do with the Organixx 7M+ Active Immune Support. It’s a concentrated mushroom formula that combines the 7 most effective mushrooms into one easy to take pill. These mushrooms are chock full of all kinds of immune-supporting vitamins, like vitamin D and B3. This product alone supercharges me and I know it helps my immunity. Mushrooms are so healing! Don’t forget your vitamin D. Here’s a blog I wrote on “Vitamin D” that I think you’ll find interesting.
On another note, during this “crisis,” please make sure to go oustide, connect with nature, feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your face. Nature heals <3.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a classic immune supporter that you’ve probably heard of.
But did you know it’s possible that vitamin C may actually help prevent and treat lung infections and inflammation caused by the flu? (7,8)
Scientists believe vitamin C aids in the production of white blood cells — the body’s ultimate defense against viruses and bacteria. (9)
You guessed it, during my illness, I gobbled the vitamin C. I took it to bowel tolerance and every time I took it I felt better. It’s important that you know that vitamin C can’t be made by the body, we have to regularly ingest it. And any amount of it that your body can’t use is eliminated in your urine, so you can’t take too much of it.
I take a regular daily dose of vitamin C but upped it considerably while I was feeling sick and now I am still taking a lot of it and I wanted to let you know that.
I had to switch brands because vitamin C is powerful and much needed to boost immunity. One of my favorite health brands is Palleovalley because of their integrity in sourcing the highest quality products.
I’m currently using PaleoValley Essential C — it’s the highest quality combination of 3 natural sources of vitamin C (unripe acerola cherry, camu camu, and amla berry), it’s non-GMO and has no fillers or junk in it. It’s a brand that I personally trust so I have no problems recommending it to you.

Turmeric
Turmeric is a super spice.
Its benefits for health are well-studied, documented, and celebrated. It’s revered for its potent anti-inflammatory properties and has been credited with the ability to help with heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and even cancer. (10,11)
But it’s also an extremely powerful antiviral compound. (12,13)
You bet that I take some of this every day, especially when I was sick.
It’s hard to get enough turmeric into your diet to really see its benefits, so I choose to supplement it. And my go-to brand is PaleoValley Tumeric for its high concentration of the highest quality turmeric combined with black pepper and coconut oil for the best absorption. PaleoValley has been gracious enough to extend a 10% discount that’s automatically applied at checkout when you order through this link: PELVICPAINRELIEF10
Turmeric helped me with the aches and pains that swept through my body when I had the “respiratory virus,” so I consider this a must-have staple for your medicine cabinet.
It feels so good to be healthy again!
Ultimately, isn’t it empowering to know that we can exert control over how our bodies react to and destroy viruses and bacteria?
While none of us have immunity for this particular “menace” we’re dealing with right now because it’s never been seen before, it’s nice to know that our choices before the battle and during the battle can determine our victory — I prefer the proactive approach, don’t you? Our bodies are strong, resilient and are more powerful than we’ve been lead to believe.
The truth is that your immune system is there to protect you and it takes its job very seriously. We’re NOT fragile humans and the science proves this. So the next time you get scared or fear taps you on the shoulder because of this virus – stare it down and say to yourself “my immune system is strong and you can’t touch me. Now go away now.”
